In West Sussex, the most frequent type of house sold from June 2020 to June 2021 was a detached home, amounting to 34.3% of total properties sold.

Flats were the least common form of property sold in West Sussex, accounting for 16.6% of sales.

Prices have continued to surge in recent months as the cost of living crisis continues. Although COVID restrictions – which played a big role in home prices soaring since 2020 – have ended, prices continue to rise by nearly £200 a day in some parts of Sussex.

The latest figures for the average house prices in West Sussex are as follows:

Average house price range

• The average property price in West Sussex county is £431k.
• The median price is £358k.
• Over the last twelve months, the average price increased by £8.6k (2%).
• The price of an established property is £431k.
• The price of a newly built property is £458k.
• There were 10.7k property sales, dropping by 42.1% (-8.3k transactions).
• Most properties were sold in the £300k-£400k price range with 2786 (26.1%) properties sold, followed by the £400k-£500k price range with 1738 (16.3%) properties sold.

How do prices in West Sussex compare to East Sussex?

Across both the East and the West, there is little difference in property prices, with the average property price for West Sussex being £431k whilst the average property price in East Sussex was £404k.

The most and least expensive areas within the two counties were reported as follows;
